CHILD PROTECTION ACTIVITIES/PROGRAMS IN SINDH

Cooperation and Partnership: In all types of activities, PCCWD present child protection policy which is according to CRC promotes the achievement of diversified partnerships and cooperation with the Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations.

 “Achay Dost” FM Radio Program: Achay Dost” FM Radio Program had on air in order to create awareness among the children and general masses.

Review of Vagrancy Act & Police Order, 2002: Provincial Commission for Child Welfare and Development- Social Welfare Department with the collaboration of UNICEF is reviewing the Vagrancy Act & Police Order 2002 which help to identify the gaps and in consistencies with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Propose amendments in the laws which is best interest of the children.

 Rehabilitation Plan for Children Involved In Camel Racing (CICR):    Provincial Commission for Child Welfare and Development-Social Welfare Department establishes the endowment fund with the collaboration of UNICEF (UAE Government Funded) to provide the Conditional Cash Grant to the children involved in camel racing (CICR) and now permanently residing in Sindh.

 Training for Trainers (TOT) Provincial Commission for Child Welfare and Development-Social Welfare Department has organized TOT with the collaboration of UNICEF. The training curriculum for the participants may include at least one module concerning CRC and abuse/ exploitation/ neglect prevention.

Child Protection Management Information System (CPMIS): It is a comprehensive national monitoring system child protection, manage an information database and under taken relevant research CPMIS is striving to collaborate with the relevant Federal Ministries, Provincial Governments and  Civil Society organizations and UNICEF on the following thematic areas.

 Establishment of Child Protection Unit (CPU): The establishment of the CPU is part of the mechanism intended to strengthen the gate- keeping function at the local level by introducing a single point of contact for families and children who need support.

Child Protection Unit may establish by the Social Welfare Department- Provincial Commission for Child Welfare and Development- Government of Sindh with the collaboration of the Police, Judiciary, UNICEF, concerned Government Departments and the partner organizations initially at Saddar Town. 

Advocacy for Sindh Child Protection Authority Bill 2005 (CPA Bill): CPA Law was drafted in consultation with various stakeholders and still in process.

Training for the Governmental Officials on Child Rights and Juvenile Justice System: The purpose of these trainings is to educate and create awareness so that procedures in dealing with minors in conflict with law according to the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance are being followed.

Re-establishment of the Children Help Line (CHL): Provincial Commission for Child Welfare and Development- Social Welfare Department Government of Sindh had operational zed the   Children Help Line in 2007 but unfortunately the fire engulfed the office of the PCCWD and everything was destroyed. There is a plan to restart the Help Line.
